There are 3 Music courses in S2/3. These are:

Music Technology
Music: Theatre Skills

The courses build on the work introduced in S1 and allow pupils to specialize in particular aspects of the subject.

Each of the courses offers a clear progression to the music courses in the upper school (S4-6), at National 4, National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher.

Music

Pupils work in the areas of Performing, Composing / Technology and Listening.

In Performing, pupils work throughout the course to develop skills on 2 instruments of their choice.

In Composing / Technology, pupils create original pieces of music using instruments and music software.

In Listening, pupils will develop and understanding of musical concepts, styles and literacy.

Music Technology

Today’s music industry relies heavily on technology. This course offers pupils an opportunity to create and perform music using technology, such as music production software, multitrack digital recorders and mixing desks. Pupils will also work on Listening and Composing tasks. The course is an ideal introduction to how today’s music is made and can lead on to further study in Music Technology at National 4, National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher in S4 – 6.

Music: Theatre Skills

The success of shows like Glee has given Musical Theatre a new lease of life. This course offer pupils an opportunity to explore aspects of Musical Theatre with an emphasis on singing technique and repertoire. The course will also develop Listening and song writing skills in the context of Musical Theatre. This is an ideal opportunity for young singers to develop skills and confidence and can lead on to further study at National 4, National 5, Higher and Advanced Higher in S4 – 6
