S1

Pupils develop their literacy skills and a wide range of texts are studied to enable them to produce writing in a variety of styles. Pupils have timetabled library visits to introduce them the Clydebank High School library as well as to access information and to develop research skills. This information is used to write reports, projects and discursive essays. Comprehension skills are developed through analysis of the writer’s craft and through close reading. Grammar, punctuation and spelling skills are consolidated and developed. Group discussion, individual talk, critical listening, analysing and responding to texts are also developed. Pupils will also have the opportunity to work on interdisciplinary projects.

S2

Pupils study a wide range of texts and use these as models to produce writing in a variety of styles including scripts, imaginative and personal stories, poetry, letters and newspaper reports. Pupils have timetabled library visits to access information and develop research skills. Comprehension skills are developed through analysis of the writer’s craft and close reading. Grammar, punctuation and spelling skills are consolidated and developed. Skills are also developed in group discussion, individual talk, critical listening, analyzing and responding to texts.
